Overrunning Clutches and Backstops
for Rotary Wing Aircraft Applications
Ideal for:
- Autorotation
- Twinning
- APU drives
- Accessory gearboxes
Formsprag Clutch is the preferred overrunning clutch in rotary wing applications. Formsprag Overrunning Clutches permit drive during normal operations and autorotation during emergency situations. Sprag clutches are integral to the transmission gearboxes of multi-engine helicopters to allow twinning of the engines for efficient power sharing and synchronization or disengagement of one engine. As purely mechanical devices they require no pilot or flight control input.
